"Terry Barnett has been my student since 1979.  Terry is one of the few individuals to have achieved the rank of 'Full Instructor' in the Filipino Martial Arts and The art of Jun Fan Gung Fu, (the art & philosophy of Jeet Kune Do) under my instruction. Terry's loyalty, integrity, compassion and excellence in teaching the arts is surpassed by very few.

I highly recommend Terry Barnett as an instructor to anyone interested in training with a truly knowledgeable and humble human being".

Welcome

Welcome to the Integrated Arts website, an information resource covering my approach to the teaching and performance of the jun fan martial arts, the jeet kune do concepts, and the filipino martial arts as taught by Guro Dan Inosanto.

Within this site you can access the latest news and seminars sections both of which will feature information relating to what is happening with myself or the people I have certified to use the Integrated Arts title to endorse their own teaching.  The aforementioned individuals are listed on the I.A. Instructors page and the links page will take you to the web pages some of them have developed.

Tel's Top Tips will list techniques and training methods that I think may be of use as well as listing other sources of education or inspiration.  The gallery is simply a collection of photos which may help put a face to the names of some of the people mentioned in these pages.

In 1986 I was awarded my apprentice instructor credentials under Guro Dan Inosanto which took the form of two certificates; one covering the Jun Fan Martial Arts (incorporating the concepts of Jeet Kune Do); and the other covering the Filipino Martial Arts as taught by Guro Dan.  It was my understanding that Guro preferred the people he certified to give a name to their expression and this was usually then associated with any teaching they carried out, examples of this include: Rick Young who taught under 'Edinburgh Kickboxing and Kali' (later to become his 'Black Belt Academy'); Bobby Breen who taught under 'Modern Combat Systems' (later to become 'JKD / Kali International'); and Ralph Jones who still teaches under the 'Zanshin Kali' banner.  I therefore adopted the title of 'Integrated Arts' and I've stayed with that ever since.

During the last twenty years I have been fortunate enough to be promoted to the rank of 'Full Instructor' under Guro Dan, an honour shared in the United Kingdom by Rick Young, Bobby Breen, Ralph Jones and Phil Norman, and within Europe, by Udo Mueller from Germany.  This rank allows me to give permission to the people you will find listed under the I.A. Instructors page to use the Integrated Arts title within their teaching.  For many of them, the I.A. certification is just one of their credentials and it is also the case that some of the people listed are now also on Guro's instructor programme either through recommendation by myself or another Full Instructor.

It may also be worth clarifying at this point my position with regards to ranking, certification, and recommendation onto Guro's programme.

Within my Integrated Arts structure there is no grading or ranking, I simply certify people when I feel the time is right.  The certification is based on their ability to pass on what they know as well as perform it and there is no guarantee that this will ever lead to recommendation to Guro.  There is a saying that "when you have one eye on the destination you only have one eye for the road that leads there" and that pretty much sums up my approach to people who ask me about timescales on certification.

I hope you enjoy reading the pages within the site and please feel free to let me know your observations by mailing me at terry@integratedarts.co.uk
